Headlight Restoration: The Basics

A Quick & Easy Way To Restore Your Headlights

basic headlight restoration guide

Not many people know that there are multiple ways to restore the headlight of any vehicle.

There’s the easy way, the quick way and the professional way.

This page will explain how to go restore your headlights using the first two methods.

Both methods will work however they will never compare to the best headlight restoration method.

The Toothpaste Method

This method is considered to be easiest way to clean your headlights.

It’s nothing revolutionary but it does the trick for the amount of effort involved.

Before we begin, please keep in mind that this method is not the most effective way to restore your headlights.

Toothpaste and baking soda will strip away any UV protection and the headlights will become oxidised within months.

The items you need can be found in most households and include the following:

  • Toothpaste
  • Baking Soda
  • Old Toothbrush
  • Water
  • Microfibre Cloth

All you need to do is mix toothpaste with baking soda and create a grit-like paste that can be applied onto the headlamp.

Rub the paste onto the surface of the headlamp using circular motions.

Lightly scrub the headlight unit with a toothbrush for 1 minute.

Wash away the paste using warm water and wipe dry with a microfibre cloth.

Optional

Apply a layer of Rocket Butter Shell Suit Nano Sealant – Stage 2 to the headlamp unit.

This solution is designed to protect the bodywork of vehicles but will add a level of UV protection that will last up to 12 months on the headlight.

The Crystalite Method

Twenty20 Crystalite
The Crystalite method is by far the fastest way to restore your headlights.

It uses a simple, straight-forward process that takes minutes to carry out.

All you need for this method is a pack of Twenty20 Crystalite and a few minutes of your time.

This method restores dull, yellow and oxidised headlights and leaves a layer of UV protection that protects from any further damage.
